Just a few of the places to go and see near Newcastle Emlyn. Not all of them are open all year round, so please check before visiting.

Newcastle Emlyn CastleNewcastle Emlyn Castle

The Castle was built by the Welsh in 1240 (the only Welsh built stone castle in this area) on a high point with the river on three sides. Tt was captured in 1287 and strengthened in the 14th century. It was badly damaged in the 15th century and then ruined in the Civil War when the walls were destroyed.

Cardigan Bay Marind Wildlife Centre

The Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre in New Quay, West Wales (UK) is a public information, education and research centre dedicated to raising awareness of the marine environment.

The centre offers interpretive displays on a wide variety of marine wildlife with research focused on the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay, Wales. The centre is supported by the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Group, a marine interest group of the Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales.

Cardigan Bay Watersports

You can choose from dinghy sailing, power boating, windsurfing and kayaking with short sessions and courses suitable for all levels and abilities whether: you are a first timer; you wish to enhance your skills/qualifications; build up your team; you simply want a fun experience whilst on a weekend break or longer holiday. Cilgerran CastleCilgerran Castle

Not far from Newcastle Emlyn is Cilgerran, with it's castle and the National Coracle Centre. The remains of Cilgerran Castle include include a pair of highly defensible round towers dating to the first half of the thirteenth century



National Coracle CentreNational Coracle Centre

The National Coracle Museum in Cilgerran houses an international collection of coracles from as far afield as Vietnam, North America, India, Tibet and Iraq to complement the collection of coracles from around our home islands. The museum also incorporates a work-shop to show the ancient craft of coracle making. 
 

Castell Henllys 

Castell Henllys is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and one of many prehistoric promontory forts in the National Park dating to around 600BC. What makes this site particularly important is that archaeologists have been excavating here for over twenty years and thatched Iron Age buildings have been reconstructed on their original foundations. Today, Castell Henllys (Welsh for the castle of the Prince's court) is set within thirty acres of beautiful woodland and river meadows. Explore sculpture trails depicting myths and legends, pass by prehistoric breeds of livestock grazing in fields next to the path (don't miss the Iron Age pigs), before entering the hillfort itself. Four roundhouses and a granary have been reconstructed on their original Iron Age foundations at Castell Henllys. The first to be built, the 'Old Roundhouse' was reconstructed more than twenty years ago and is the longest standing reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse in Britain.

Cenarth FallsCenarth Falls

Cenarth with it's water falls and mill is only a few miles away from Newcastle Emlyn. You can spend a relaxing day enjoying walks along the river and woodland areas. During the summer you may be able to watch some of the locals fishing from coracles in the river.

Castell Carreg Cennen is a castle near the river Cennen (Carreg being Welsh for stone) in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is considered one of the most spectacular castles in Britain, due to its position on a cliff face.
